Today Daddy and David took Lilac and the Heifer over to our friends house (they have a bull).
After they left, Grace informed me that all the sheep and the little bull were out. She was busy so I headed out there to put them back in the fence. When got out there, I noticed that they ate all the grass down in the pen and their fence needed to be moved. We have portable fencing that David moves everyday so that way the animals have fresh grass. Now, it was down pouring rain...really pouring down...hard. I decided to try moving the fence all by myself. I have never moved the fence before...ever. So I took down the first "chunk" of fencing, moved it and started putting it back up. Towards the end the fence was starting to get tangled. I was getting worried that I'd have a big mess for David when he got home. But, I kept on going and going until I got it un-tangled. In between times I had to run and herd the animals back towards me and away from the road. Finally I got the fence all put up. And then Grace came out and helped me get the sheep back in. I was sopping wet. I came in, got dry clothes on and sipped a mug of hot spiced cider. Oh... it felt soooo good (the cider:)!
Here is me when I came in...

I found out that moving the fence is ALOT harder than I thought it was!

Random Pictures of Today...

Okay here are some pictures from today. They are not in order... Sorry, but I'm tired!

The Making Of the Doughnuts...
These doughnuts turned out alot better than the last time I made doughnuts. The cider was very good too!

Me and the lil' goat that we are trying to name "the perfect name"...
We want name ideas! She is too pretty to be a nameless goat! Do you have any ideas?
One Rule: No People names please! Thank-You!
Take the time to leave a comment with a name suggestion and ask your blogging friends to do the same! I am looking forward to what you will come up with!

Grace asked Nathanael to get her a carrot "I only need one" is what she told him. He came back with this...
If this isn't the biggest carrot, what is? I'd like to know.

Cider apples... the boys picked these so we could have fresh cider to go with our doughnuts this evening...

Rinsing them off. Don't worry they had NO CHEMICALS on them! They were ground apples so they had dirt on them...

Scrub a dub dub in a tub...

The Boys harvested the field corn today. And then put into shocks to dry...

I think the shocks look so nice! Our neighbor thought they were for decoration! I guess they do look decretive!

That's All Folks! Have a Good-Nights Rest!

Trip

Yesterday we went downstate to help our friends butcher a little over 110 chickens. We had lots of fun working together to get the job done. Everything went really well and we got the chickens done in really quickly because there were so many people killing, scalding, plucking, gutting, rinsing, cooling, packaging, labeling, and putting them into the freezer. After cleaning up the butchering area, we all came inside and ate dinner and visited. Everybody who ate on the back porch got laughing so hard for a few minutes because Nik was being so funny. I think every time I see a "little cup" it's going to remind me of Nik ( I'm sure you will too Jenn!).
It was nice going thru Midland again and looking at things we used to see everyday. We did not drive past our old house because it would have been a bit out of the way.
Here are some pictures:

Here is the double-decker bus that Mama, R, David and Grace rode on years ago.

I had not been down that way in a long time. It is amazing the way the scenery changes the further south we went. We could see really far because there were no big hills all covered with trees! It was neat. This is a picture of a chemical plant, there is an overlook by it, but we did not have time to stop and look around, but we enjoyed looking thru our windows!
Here are more scenery pictures...
a nice looking farm sign...
and a produce stand...
farm house...we had fun waving hi to the curious onlookers who were peeking thru the windows!
a garden and a big red barn... and a eight sided yurt? or goat barn?
David and Rachel slaughter the birds...
and then give them to Daddy and Mr.T. who scald them to loosen the feathers so that way they come off when...
Mr.J. plucks them...
Allison or Nik would carry the featherless chickens to Enoch and/or Nathanael who cut of the feet...E/N would slide the bird down to Micah and Bridgett who chopped off the heads and loosened the crop...the bird would then either go to Miranda,Gabbi,Josie,Grace or I and we would gut them out and give them to Jenn who rinsed the bird and took it into...
...the garage where Nik helped out the...
Moms to packaged them up and put them in the freezer!
Then we all came in and ate dinner together...
There was a really fun huge double seater swing and Mr. T. would push us really fast. It was soooo fun!!!!!
When we got home the animals were out. Overall, it was a fun day!
