Yesterday's Skiing

Yesterday I went out skiing with Grace and Nathanael. We had alot fun. We only went to the first big hill along the power-line, and went up and down it. We like to go down with no ski poles just for the fun of it. So, we all left our poles at the top of the hill and then when we go down the hill we spread out our arms and the wind rushes past us! The hill has places where you have to turn, twist and steer at the same time you going downhill. It is hard to explain =D! Maybe when we go out today I'll bring the camera and take some pics/videos.
One time when I went down I was steering around a hill then I went down into this little dip and did a big belly-smack my head hit the snow really hard. It hurt for a little bit but not too bad and I was soon up and skiing again. Another time I was at the bottom of the hill and Grace and Nathanael were half-way up, when I heard a scream to the west of us (which would be the way that we would go home). I was so scared. I knew the only animal out there that would make a sound like that would be a cougar. I asked Grace and Nathanael if they heard it and they said yes. I said "it's a cougar! what are we going to do?" I did not know why Grace and Nathanael had a look on their faces like they were pretending to be scared. Grace actually looked like she was about to laugh! All I was thinking about was that we'd have to get to the top of the hill and get home in a round-about way since the cougar was right on our path home.
Nathanael said "Com'on Hannah, hurry! fast! we've got to get to the top of the hill!" I told him to talk quieter. But then Grace did laugh out loud and I turned around to see Enoch skiing down the hill behind us right were the noise from the "cougar" was! Since I was at the bottom of the hill I could not see Enoch but Grace and Nathanael could and they played scared =D. I laughed when I realized that the cougar was my brother =D! Nathanael told Enoch that my face was ashen white when he screamed! I hope we never meet up with a real cougar!
Got to go!

Yesterday,

I had alot of fun making. . .
Seared Chicken and Maytag Blue Cheese Sandwiches.

1/4 C. Honey
1 jalapeno chile pepper, minced
1 T. grated fresh ginger
1 clove Garlic,minced
1/2 t. ground cumin
1/2 C. soy sauce
Juice of 1 orange
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 lime
1.4 C. extra virgin olive oil

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 T. olive oil
8 T. Maytag blue cheese dressing (recipe below)
4 rustic sandwich rolls, split
1 large avocado, cut into 12 slices
4 (1/8" thick) slices red onion
1 head bibb lettuce, washed, dried, and leaves separated
1. In a small bowl, combine the honey, jalapeno, ginger, garlic and cumin; wisk in the soy sauce and citrus juices. Wisk in the extra virgin olive oil. Add the chicken; toss to coat with the marinade. Cover and marinate the chicken in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours.
2. Pre-heat oven to 350 F. Heat a large saute pan over high heat until it is smoking.
3. Meanwhile, remove the chicken from the marinade; gently blot with paper towels (do not wipe dry). Add the olive oil to the pan. Carefully place the chicken breasts, smooth-side down, in the hot pan; cook about 3 minutes or until caramelized. Turn the chicken over and cook 2 minutes more. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish; bake 5 to 8 minutes or until cooked through. Cools lightly.
4. Spread 1 T. Mayag blue cheese dressing on the bottom half of each roll. Cut each chicken breast into stripes and arrange 1 breast on each bottom half. Top each chicken breast with 3 slices avocado, 1 slice red onion, and 1 T. dressing. Divide the lettuce among the sandwiches; add top halves of the rolls. . . enjoy!! makes 4 sandwiches.
~~~~~~~~~~
Maytag Blue Cheese Dressing

1 large egg
1t. freshly ground black pepper
1 clove garlic
1 t. dijon mustard
1 t. fresh lemon juice
1 C. safflower or canola oil
1/2 C. sour cream
4 ounces Maytag blue cheese (or any rich, creamy blue cheese)
1.8 t. ground red pepper

In a food processor or blender process the egg, black pepper, garlic, mustard, and lemon juice until blended, about one minute. With the machine running, gradually add the oil in a thin steady stream through the feed tube, and process until smooth. Add the blue cheese and red pepper; pulse just until the dressing is smooth and very small pieces of the blue cheese are evenly distributed. Makes 2 cups.
And I have to say, I did not do all this on my own. The day before yesterday, Mama made the rolls, Grace and Nathanael made the marinade and Enoch made the dressing. So, my job was not all that hard! Well, I want to get something in the mail for a dear friend and after that I am going out skiing (I went out yesterday too with Grace, Enoch and Nathanael. It was alot of fun!). So, bye for now!

A Young Maiden's Daybook

I have seen others do this on their blog and finally thought I'd give it a try. I think everyone normally does it on mondays but I wanted to do it today.

Today… Friday, January 29th, 2010.

Outside my window…Cloudy and cold.

I am thinking… About my day.

I am thankful for... Godly Parents.

I am wearing… A black floral jumper with a bright green jacket.

I am reading…I need a new book. I just finished Love's Abiding Joy.

I am creating… some yarn!

One of my favorite things. . . making dinner for my family. Tonight I am going to make seared chicken sandwiches.

For education this week… The daily tasks around the house.

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning … How to plan my day better.

A spiritual lesson I’m learning… "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord". And, "Let your speech be alway with grace."

A godly character trait I plan to work on… Being a servant in all things.

Scripture I am memorizing… I am not memorizing any scripture right now, but I have been thinking about starting.

I am praying for… Guidance.

For the rest of the week… I want to only speak things that edify and build up. I want to be more of a servant also.

A picture I’d like to share…

Another Favorite Song From Fernando Ortega's CD

Oh Thou, in whose presence my soul takes delight, on whose in affliction I call, my comfort by day, and my song in the night, my hope, my salvation, my all.

Where dost thou, dear Shepherd, resort with thy sheep to feed them in pastures of love? Say, way in the valley of death should I weep or alone in this wilderness rove?

Oh way should I wander, an alien from thee, or cry in the desert for bread? Thy foes will rejoice when my sorrows they see, and smile at the tears I have shed.

He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice, and myriads wait for His word; He speaks, and eternity, filled with His voice, re-echoes the praise of the Lord.

Dear Shepherd, I hear, and will follow Thy call I know the sweet sound of your voice. Restore and defend me, for Thou art my all, and in Thee I will ever rejoice. by: Joseph Swaim

Today I did laundry. I washed some hung some on the line (we don't have a dryer =), and folded some, and put some away. When I was up above our CTB (certified-to-be) kitchen, to hang up the laundry (we have a laundry line up there) I felt like spinning some yarn. We are storing all our "wool stuff" up there. So I got the spinning wheel set up and started spinning. I was working with merino wool and the fibers are really short so it was kind of hard to spin but it was fun nonetheless. I got the first spool done and am working on the second. Th first spool is multi-colored, the second spool is going to be all black. I think when I ply them together the results will be nice-- we'll see!
About the mystery picture, I have enjoyed reading all your guesses. So far two people have got it correct one person got it exactly right =D! Keep guessing, you have till tomorrow morning!!
Lot's of Love,

A Mystery Picture!!

I could not think of anything to do for today's mystery picture, but my brother thought of this.
I'll post the answer and your comments with guesses tomorrow.

Just for Today

Today I cleaned out two of our refrigerators. We have 3, one is just for all "regular refrigerator stuff", one is for milk, and one is for eggs. I cleaned out the milk and egg refrigerators. We have them off right now because we don't have many eggs or much milk.
Normally this job would be one of my not so favorite jobs to do, but I actually enjoyed it today! Mama bought a new CD, "This Bright Morning" by Fernando Ortega, and I had that playing while I worked and sang along! I always enjoy learning new songs to sing to the Lord! This is one of my favorites on there:

Children of the living God come and sing sing out loud children of the living God Sing to the Living God

Sing of the wonders he has made bird in flight falling rain
Sing of the wonders he has made sing to the living God

Chorus:
How he loves us with great love he who sits enthroned above for our lives he spilled his blood sent his spirit like a flood Children of the Living God sing to the living God

Sing of his gentle healing hands how they found the lowliest man sing of his gentle healing hands sing to the living God

Sing of the mercy that he gives though we sin he forgives sing of the mercy that he gives sing to the living God (Chorus)

Sing for the morning when he comes in the clouds glorious son sing for the morning when he comes sing to the living God (Chorus)

P.S. I have a mystery picture planed for tomorrow! I'll post it then.
Cora Beth, over at Maiden in the House of God has a very mysterious mystery picture posted right now =D!

It's working to upload pictures now!

On Saturday, we had our friend's over and they brought us 5 cute little. . .
yes, you guessed right. . .

Monday, January 25, 2010

hmm...

I don't know why, but it is taking really really long for me to upload pictures. I wanted to post some pictures of our newest animals- can you guess?

They are SO cute.
There are five of them.
Two are white, one is black, and two are black and white.
Three are bucks, two are does.
One is so cute, so tiny, and likes to lick your hand- and he's my favorite :).
They like to chew.
Our cat's stare at them with eyes hungry for a rare dinner-- don't worry, they are safe in a cage.
They love the sugar beets we give them. . . sweet treat.
They don't all have names, but one of the black and white one's name is Sweet Patchouli.
They don't make any sounds- maybe a little squeak or sniffle, but for the most part they are quiet.
We used to have these kind of animals on our farm a few years ago, but our dog could not get it into his head that they were not to kill. He was fine with all the other animals- even the tiniest baby ones but when he saw this kind of animal he must have thought it was a pest of some kind. One good reason not to have a dog. . . I still want one though.
When I was younger, I had one of these kind of animals. Her name was Nippit. She was black and white and very sweet.
Once when my oldest brother was two years old, Mama bought him one of these animals. We lived in the city. My brother loved (squeezed) that poor little animal a little too much and by the next day it had died. Kind of funny now, but I guess it was not too funny when it happened =D.
Have you guessed what the addition to our farm is?

Oh yes, I changed my background again. I think I'll keep this one till spring though. I liked the purple one, but I like this one better. And about my blog button, please don't put it on your blog yet. I am still playing around with it and want to change it some.
And as you will see, I also got a new signature! I made my own!! Yeah! I did it on this website called mylivesignature.com. And I am also working on making a header too! So now I've learned how to make a button (by the way, here is the link to the place where I learned how: designtipsbloggers.blogspot.com), a header, and a signature. Now I should try to make a background. . . I think that would be hard though!!
Good Night!
