letter, disappointment,harvest, trip, and SHUDDERS!!!!!

I wrote a letter to my dear friend who lives in VA today. I had just written it and I ran down to the cabin to get a stamp and right when I was running back up from the cabin I saw the mail lady drive away from our mailbox. I was so disappointed. I did all that rushing just for...oh I'll put it the mail tomorrow. As far as tomorrow, well you'll just have to wait for tomorrow to see! I'll tell you one thing...we have a fun day trip planed for tomorrow!
I helped Grace do salsa today. If you want to see pictures of the salsa you can go to her blog.
Tomorrow night we are supposed to get a hard frost, so we are going to harvest all our garden stuff. I am to hustle off to bed right now because we have to get up at 5:00 tomorrow morning!
Good-Night Dear Ones! Sweet Dreams!

Today when I was heading downstairs, I happened to glance at the wall and what i saw made me shudder:
Would YOU shudder if you saw this?
David, Enoch, and Nathanael braided onions today.
When Zach came he thought they were really cool.
I think they are so pretty don't you?

Just for Today

Today was very rainy and cold. I did alot of reading today ;). Well, I did make a chile for dinner and we had it with garlic toast. It was really good! I got a letter today from a dear friend of mine who moved down to VA a couple of years ago. I had not heard from her in a while and i was not able to write her as they moved and I did not have their new address. So, it was really good to hear from her.
We also heard today that a dear christian friend of ours passed away yesterday. He was a very elderly single man who was a beekeeper. He lived a good long life and we will always remember the times that we would visit with him. One of my nephews was named after him.
I got to talk with my oldest sister on the phone today and that was really nice.
Well I should get going. I have a book to read.
I do want to share some pictures that I took of our squash harvest:

this one is marked for seed...
when i was taking pictures of Grace and Nathanael picking peppers today,i tried to get a picture of a pepper itself. i could hardly see what i was doing because of the rain and when i loaded the pictures on the computer i was surprised to see how nice it turned out. at least i think it did...what do you think? there is one problem and it is on all the other pics too, in the right hand corn is a little smudge that was on the lens,it does not look too bad though...
Good-Night!

Nathanael woke up this morning and mixed up pancake batter.:chef: Then him and Enoch fried them up on the wood cook stove. We have not had pancakes for quite awhile because we only like to do them on our wood stove as it cooks them alot better then a regular stove and it has been too warm outside for the last few weeks to heat up the wood stove. So I am looking forward to eating the pancakes (they are still working on them).:hungry:

Oh I forgot to write...it is rainy and cold out, so that is why it feels good to have the wood stove heated right now. Fall is here and before we know it, it'll be winter. I am looking forward to winter. I like it. But by April I now I'll be looking forward to warmer months!

Of Chocolate...

Mmmmm...yummy I am eating a piece of a Green & Black's Organic 70% chocolate bar ( one of my favorites:0).
Do you know the right way to eat chocolate? "Sure, I know how to eat a chocolate bar...you pop a piece in your mouth and eat it like anything else". Well, up until about a year ago I thought that is how to eat chocolate, until I read otherwise. The right way to eat chocolate is, first of all to have a really good organic chocolate bar, once you have that, break of a small piece, put it into your mouth and let it slowly melt. This brings out lots of the real good chocolaty flavors that you would have never really tasted if you just crunched down the chocolate bar really quickly, and it makes the bar last longer too! I dunno... I just thought I'd tell you that!

We had a nice day today, Mr Todd, his Mother, N, D, M,& T stopped by and we had a yummy salmon dinner with them. Mr T. caught the salmon when he was fishing this weekend. Mrs Becky, J,and G, were gone for the weekend out of state for a wedding so that is why it was not the whole family.
Good-Night Folks...I hope you have a good nights sleep. I need to get up to bed earlier(early? you ask...ahem...well not really, I know, I know it's 11:00, but I call that earlier:o) so that way I can have time to read before sleep overtakes me!

WHEN THE FROST IS ON THE PUNKIN

This poem Mama found in a nature poem book that I found at the library. It goes along with this time a year. The way it makes you read it, sounds like how the people in our area talk!

by: James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916)

      WHEN the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock,
      And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin' turkey-cock,
      And the clackin' of the guineys, and the cluckin' of the hens,
      And the rooster's hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
      O, it's then's the times a feller is a-feelin' at his best,
      With the risin' sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
      As he leaves the house, bareheaded, and goes out to feed the stock,
      When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock.
      They's something kindo' harty-like about the atmusfere
      When the heat of summer's over and the coolin' fall is here--
      Of course we miss the flowers, and the blossums on the trees,
      And the mumble of the hummin'-birds and buzzin' of the bees;
      But the air's so appetizin'; and the landscape through the haze
      Of a crisp and sunny morning of the airly autumn days
      Is a pictur' that no painter has the colorin' to mock--
      When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock.
      The husky, rusty russel of the tossels of the corn,
      And the raspin' of the tangled leaves, as golden as the morn;
      The stubble in the furries--kindo' lonesome-like, but still
      A-preachin' sermuns to us of the barns they growed to fill;
      The strawstack in the medder, and the reaper in the shed;
      The hosses in theyr stalls below--the clover over-head!--
      O, it sets my hart a-clickin' like the tickin' of a clock,
      When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock!
      -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
The chicken butchering went well yesterday. It took us all day just to butcher 65 chickens. But we only had 5-6 people doing it. I was the gutter, the gizzard cleaner, and the packager.
Well I need to go now...David is frying bacon and I need to make some biscuits to go with it.
Talk to ya's later!

Honest Scrap

RULES: If you are awarded this is what you do:
1. Say thanks and link to the person who gave you the award. (Thank you, CORA BETH!) :D

2. Copy the above image and paste it at the top of your "Honest Scrap Award" post.

3. Share ten "honest" things about yourself.

4. Award this to seven people who's blog design/content you admire or who have encouraged you, and inform them of their win and of the rules of this award.

Here are ten honest things about myself...
1: I am very much of an avid reader. I don't take long to finish a book and my oldest brother David tells me that I read books too fast, and at the end, I don't remember any details...(but...I DO!!!!). I love my siblings!

2: I play three instruments, the piano, the guitar, and the mandolin. I have always wanted to play every instrument in the world...now I realize that I probley never will do that, but I do hope to play more than just piano,guitar and mandolin! My next two instruments that I want to play is the dobro and the fiddle. I don't really care for band instruments although they do sound nice in a band. My two favorite drums are the african drum and the celtic drum. I love singing praises to my Maker while I play and I also love playing piano while Mama plays her flute.

3:I don't have alot of friends that live near me, but I enjoy pen-paling to all my friends who have moved or always lived out of state. My friends that do live near me (Grace and Olivia) are so special and we have lots of cherished times together! I have 5 best friends and those are my five siblings who I love so much. And my brother-in -law too! Of course I have my dear parents and we have wonderful times together, as a family as only families can have together!

4: I have 2 cats, Daisy who is grey with orange markings and Daffy-down dilly (aka Daffy) who is Daisy's daughter and she is all orange. I had another cat but I think the coyotes got him. His name was Ring-Ping and he was a beautiful black and white cat.

5: I love children so much. Two of the cutest children I know are my dear nephews Jeremiah and Matthias. Sometimes I feel like the pied piper of hamelin, when we go somewhere, or visit someone. I love that feeling of little ones all around me! When I am with little ones I don't always like to act my age...I like to act as though I were as old as they and I get down on the floor, and giggle with them! Maybe that sounds funny to you and it sounds funny to me too, when I write it down but that is really what I do and it's fun!

6: I love to bake and cook. I normally am the one who makes breakfast in the morning. To get the recipe for my favorite breakfast to make, click HERE.

7: My favorite color is purple. Not really purple-purple but sort of a magentaish, pinkish, purplish, sort of a purple. You know what I mean? I also like colors that go together. Some of my favorites are green and brown, pink and brown, blue and brown, green and purple. My favorite color to wear is brown, a deep dark brown. That color looks really good on me (I think). I do wear alot of pink. Not baby girl pink, more like a deep yet bright sort of a pink.
8: My favorite flowers are lilacs. I think it is because they are purple...but they have such a gorgeous scent! My favorite tree is by all means the sugar maple although I do like apple trees too.

9: I like the outdoors. The woods is a place that I like to walk in and talk to God. Every year I look forward to spring in the woods when the wild flowers bloom and the morals pop their sandy-colored moist heads thru the ground! I like climbing trees. Being out in the woods with my family is something I will always enjoy...two-tracking and everything that goes with it! One of my greatest memories was before R was married and it was on the evening of her birthday. We all piled into the back of S's duce and 1/2 (huge 3 axcaled, 10 wheeled, army truck) and took off for some two tracks deep in a dense forest. This is a long story I'll have to tell you some other time but basically we got stuck in a mud hole with a steep upward hill on one side of the "road" and a steep downward hill on the other side a hole in front and the duce & 1/2 was stuck in a way that it could not back up. You get the picture??? Well it ended up that we all got home and whoever was tired went to bed (I was in that group!) and whoever was not stayed up! Daddy, David, and S finally got the duce out and 1:00 in the morning by using the winch backwards. Ther is more to that story but I don't fell like writing the whole thing out right now. Maybe some other time!
'
10: Okay last thing...hmmm.... I've been stretchin my brain to think of what to write...I know just what I will do for this last one...
This is honestly what I look like when I am feelin goofy. I have another picture that is really just to silly and I did not want to post it on my blog although I almost did so that way you could see how I get when I am being too silly.

And now I have to award 7 other bloggers

*Amy

*Sarah @ As Lilies

* Joyful Mama

*Anna Joy

*Olivia

*Jenn Jenn

*Mrs. Becky

Have fun! I am so much looking forward to what all of you will come up with!

We went to the market today. While David and the little boys stayed at the market, Daddy droped me and Grace off at the library while he went and picked up a couple of things we needed at a couple of stores. Me and Grace found lots really good books and everyone is reading them.
Tomorrow we are going to butcher our 65 meat birds.
Well I'll talk to ya's tomorrow than...I need to go and read!
